In Matthew 25, Christ says “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me.” The LCPC children’s ministry takes this very seriously and we seek to serve the underserved and in doing so instill a heart of compassion in our youngest members. Below are some of the opportunities children have to serve at LCPC.
Once a month the children and youth of the church go to the Children’s Hunger Fund in Sylmar to pack food for needy families around the world. Children’s Hunger Fund is a Christian organization that works with churches around the globe to meet not only physical needs but also spiritual ones. Each time we volunteer we begin with prayer in the church parking lot and the Hunger Fund leaders close us in prayer at the warehouse. We meet at 8:30AM on Saturday a month and return by 11:30AM. Children in 3rd grade and up are welcome to come without a chaperone. We do ask that younger children have an adult or older sibling come with them. Adults are welcome too! You can learn more about Children’s Hunger Fund at www.chfus.org.
The children at LCPC support two young children through Compassion International. The offering collected by the kids each week goes to sponsor Luis and Sabita, a young boy and girl in need of help in order to have food, clothing and enough money for an education. Compassion also provides the children with Bible teaching, medical care and recreational activities. The children of LCPC also correspond with Luis and Sabita throughout the year by writing letters that are translated by Compassion employees and sent to the small towns that Luis and Sabita live in. Below is a little more information about these two precious children. You can also learn more about Compassion International at www.compassion.com.
Every year in November, our children lead this project for the rest of the church. Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes filled with items such as small toys, candy, hygiene items and school supplies for children in need. These boxes are then collected and distributed by Samaritan’s Purse (link to Samaritan's Purse website) at Christmas time around the world.
There are other projects and programs that go on throughout the year. Examples include food drives, clothing drives, lunch packing events for Union Station and more. Please check out our church’s upcoming events to learn more about what we have planned. Your child is never too young to start learning to follow Christ’s call to service and generosity.
